Qualification Overview

This qualification provides learners with the range of learning and skills required to be able to perform a series of activities to support manufacturing, engineering, and technology processes. Learners will acquire a range of skills in the identification of production parameters in manufacturing, engineering, and technology industries, and basic strategies to achieve them.

Exit Level Outcomes

Upon completion of this qualification, learners will be able to:

  • Perform production maintenance activities and report irregularities within organisational structures
  • Apply the fundamental concepts, theories and techniques of production systems
  • Apply the fundamental concepts relating to production planning, scheduling, and control
  • Apply quality control and quality assurance practices for efficient and effective production processes
  • Communicate effectively as a member of a team

Qualification Modules

Module 1: Work Orientation

  • • Identify and explain the core and support functions of an organisation
  • • Work as a project team member
  • • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS in a workplace, and its effects on a business sub-sector, own organisation and a specific workplace

Module 2: Communication

  • • Accommodate audience and context needs in oral/signed communication
  • • Interpret a variety of literary texts
  • • Interpret and use information from texts
  • • Use language and communication in occupational learning programmes

Module 3: Mathematical Literacy

  • • Demonstrate an understanding of the use of different number bases and measurement units and an awareness of error in the context of relevant calculations
  • • Describe, apply, analyse and calculate shape and motion in 2-and 3-dimensional space in different contexts
  • • Investigate life and work-related problems using data and probabilities
  • • Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal, business and national issues

Module 4: Health and Safety

  • • Apply safety, health and environmental protection procedures

Module 5: Orientation of the Production Environment

  • • Explain the planning and scheduling of tasks in a production environment
  • • Apply quality procedures
  • • Describe and explain the principles of logistics support in a specific context
  • • Perform first-line maintenance
  • • Prepare, set up and operate process equipment in a production environment

Assessment

This qualification requires competency-based assessment including formative and summative assessments throughout the learning process to ensure mastery of production technology skills and knowledge.
