Qualification Overview

This qualification provides learners with the range of learning and skills required to be able to perform a series of activities to support manufacturing, engineering, and technology processes. Learners will acquire a range of skills in the identification of production parameters in manufacturing, engineering, and technology industries, and basic strategies to achieve them.

Exit Level Outcomes

Upon completion of this qualification, learners will be able to:

Communicate production and manufacturing-related operational information to a variety of end-users
Optimise organisational structures, functions and processes to contribute to achieving production specifications
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment through contributions made to production activities
Demonstrate an understanding of production technology practices, terminology and systems
Apply quality standards and procedures in production activities

Module 1: Work Orientation

• Orientate self in the workplace
• Understand and deal with HIV/AIDS
• Explain and use organisational procedures
• Demonstrate an understanding of a general business plan and adapt it to a selected business idea

Module 2: Communication

• Access and use information from texts
• Maintain and adapt oral/signed communication
• Use language and communication in occupational learning programmes
• Write/present for a defined context

Module 3: Mathematical Literacy

• Apply basic knowledge of statistics and probability to investigate life-related problems
• Demonstrate understanding of rational and irrational numbers and number systems
• Measure, estimate and calculate physical quantities
• Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal and community life
• Work with a range of patterns and functions and solve problems

Module 4: Health and Safety

• Identify potential hazards and critical safety issues in the workplace
• Apply health and safety to a work area
• Keep the work area safe and productive

Module 5: Orientation of the Production Environment

• Frame and implement an individual action plan to improve productivity
• Monitor the quality of the input materials and manufactured products
• Perform routine maintenance
• Supply raw and processed material to the production line
• Move, pack and maintain stock in a distribution centre/warehouse

Module 6: Production Planning and Material Flow

• Count stock for a stock-take
• Identify and describe inputs, outputs, stages and quality indicators of the manufacturing, assembly or engineering process

Assessment

This qualification requires competency-based assessment including formative and summative assessments throughout the learning process to ensure mastery of production technology skills and knowledge.
