Learnership Overview

The New Venture Creation Learnership is designed to develop appropriate skills and knowledge for the
establishment and development of entrepreneurial enterprises, addressing the economic and behavioral
barriers, and creating long-term solutions for job creation and SMME development.
This Qualification is intended to enhance the ability of potential and existing entrepreneurs to successfully
start and maintain SMME ventures that form part of the mainstream economy, serving both the public and
private sectors.

On achieving this qualification, the learner will have competencies in:

  • Using basic mathematics in order to fulfill new venture functions effectively;
  • Applying basic communication skills in new venture creation context;
  • requirements and manage the relevant marketing and selling processes;
  •  Demonstrating an understanding of the sector / industry in which the business operates;
  • Determining financial requirements and managing financial
  • Managing business operations;

Pre-requisites / Assumed Learning

Learners accessing this Learnership should be competent in:

• Communication at NQF level 1 (Grade 10)
• Mathematical Literacy at NQF level 1 (Grade 10)

Further Study Options

Learners completing this qualification may consider further studies in:

Unit 1: Demonstrate understanding of rational and irrational numbers and number systems
Unit 2: Identify, describe, compare, classify, explore shape and motion in 2-and 3-dimensional shapes in different contexts
Unit 3: Work with a range of patterns and functions and solve problems
Unit 4: Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal and community life
Unit 5: Apply basic knowledge of statistics and probability to influence the use of data and procedures in order to investigate life related problems

Understand the Sector and Industry

Unit 1: Identify the composition of a selected new venture’s industry/sector and its procurement systems
Unit 2: Tender for business or work in a selected new venture
Unit 3: Administer contracts for a selected new venture

Financial Requirements

Unit 1: Determine financial requirements of a new venture
Unit 2: Produce a business plan for a new venture
Unit 3: Manage finances for a new venture

Business Operations

Unit 1: Manage business operations
Unit 2: Prepare and process documents for financial and banking processes
Unit 3: Co-ordinate meetings, minor events and travel arrangements
Unit 4: Monitor and control the receiving and satisfaction of visitors
Unit 5: Behave in a professional manner in a business environment
Unit 6: Apply basic business ethics in a work environment
